Craving
Berlin?
(6.8mb MPEG
format, sound) by
etwas neues entsteht
(concept) & BrainPets
(direction/production)
This video was made for the Berlin Tourism board. It was directed
by David Maas, who also did the modeling, shading, animation, and
monster sounds. Rigging was by Marek Schneider, and Stefan "Brederock"
Bredereck handled the render wrangling, compositing, music, sound
effects and output. |
|
People
(15mb DivX
format, sound) by
Taron
This video is a great example of messiah:studio's displacement
rendering. The character object is the same throughout the video,
and the changes are made entirely with texturing and displacements
created in
Pixologic's ZBrush. |
|
Neckling
Change
(1mb Quicktime) by
Taron
Another sample of "displacement map morphing" created by Taron. |
|
Neckling
(1mb Quicktime) by
Taron
Taron's original "displacement map morphing" test. This is a
very simple object that gets all of its detail from the displacement
maps. The actual model is visible on the upper right in the
animation. |

The
Bridge
(4mb MPEG or 1.6mb Real Player format, sound) by Guillaume Laforge
Digital Artists Wes Coman and Geoff Suttor decided it would be fun to
model and rig Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner for messiah and make
them available to anyone who wanted to play with them. Guillaume
Laforge took them up on the offer and here's his results. If you'd
like to give it a shot yourself, here are the messiah files:

The
Glass Cage
(2.5megs, Quicktime; no sound) by Akira Orikasa of
CafeFX
This amazing animation of Brad Pitt uses the same rig as "The
Boxer" (see below). Take extra note of the amazing quality
of the deformation of the shoulders. Great work Akira!
And this was using the original project:messiah plug-in;
we look forward to seeing what Akira will do now that he has
the latest version. :-) |
|
Boxer
(1.9megs, MPEG; sound) by CafeFX
This
animation was created as an in-house demo to test
bone-controlled muscle systems. Says it's creator, Akira
Orikasa, "I must tell you there would have been no way to
create this animation without messiah." The
motion is roto-animated from a reference with Muscle
expression to simulate human anatomy, and the facial animation
is done with Morph Blender. The hair is done with
Sasquatch.

Dino
(2.3megs, MPEG format; no sound) by Eggington
Productions
This was animated with messiah:animate 3.3. |
|
Subway
(MPEG format; sound) by
Fred
Tepper
This was created with messiah:studio 2.0, just to play with the renderer. It's 1.7 million polygons, is lit with one
spotlight (no radiosity), and has traced depth-of-field.
The subway cars don't really have much texturing, but the tunnel
itself does have some procedural textures. There are two
videos: One is black & white, and was post-processed to look
like black & white film that was pushed by a couple of stops in
developing (grain was added, the contrast was raised, and the
color was removed). The other version is the straight
render. Black &
White
Color (both are 1.3 mb) |

The
Tape
(8megs, MPEG format; sound) by Dennis
Nikolaidis
This is a short film made using messiah:studio for
rigging and animation. It's a great piece on its own, but
also contains a funny nod to Victor Navone's classic Alien
Song short for those of you who've seen that. |
|
Big
Ape
(3.2megs, Quicktime format; sound) by Eggington
Productions
This logo was created for Big Ape Productions, a game
company. The animation was created with project:messiah
1.5. For those of you with broadband, here's a
larger
version (640x480; 6.1megs). |

Titanic,
December 1911
(5.3megs, MPEG format) by
Fred Tepper
A quickie test, animated and rendered with messiah:studio,
then processed with Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video.
The video depicts the RMS Titanic some time in December, 1911,
as it awaits the workers to arrive and finish the fitting
out. Most of the upper decks are incomplete, and the four
massive funnels have yet to be installed. The idea was to
re-create the look of the paper prints collection at the U.S.
Library of Congress. The lighting is global illumination
(no standard lights), and the render time for the raw 320x240
images was 4 minutes per frame (with un-optimized code). And if you're interested, here's how
it might have looked in 1965
on 16mm film (2.4megs DivX), and
1977
in Super-8 (1.5megs, DivX). |

Let
Love Be Your Energy
(15.6megs, DivX
format; sound) by
Passion
Pictures
Passion Pictures does it again! Using messiah for
all character animation and camerawork, Passion Pictures created
a fun, sexy video for Robbie Williams' latest single, "Let
Love Be Your Energy". Most recently, it was part of the Siggraph 2001
Animation Theater.
Note:
This video
contains animated nudity and adult situations, and may not be suitable for children
under 18. Yes, really. |

Let
Love Be Your Energy - Bloopers & Outtakes
(8.3megs, MPEG format; sound) by
Passion

right. After you've watched the "Let Love Be Your
Energy" video, take a look at these hilarious bloopers and
outtakes. These were a big hit at Siggraph.
Note:
This video
contains adult language, animated nudity and adult situations, and may not be suitable for children
under 18. Yes, really. |

|
Visitor
(6.5megs, DivX
format; sound) by FX
studio
This is the first character animation short from FX studio in
Germany. It features some really fun 2D and 3D animation
(the 3D being, of course, done with messiah), and it's a
great example of what a small group of talented artists can do
given the right tools. |
|
Pitchbug
(2.5megs, DivX
format; sound) by Shane Ushijima
"Pitchbug" is an animation created to test messiah's
character animation tools. We should all wish that our
"little tests" were this good. :-) |
|
Pron
(2.2megs, DivX
format; sound) by
Taron
This animation was created for the messiah demo reel for
Siggraph 2001. It's a deceptively simple piece of
animation. What you're looking at is a sophisticated
combination of bones (for the mouth and brows) and morphs (for
some of the wrinkles). And if you've got the eyes for it,
we have a stereoscopic 3D version of it too. To view it,
cross your eyes so the two images form a new one in the middle,
then relax your eyes into focus. A good viewing distance
is about 12-18 inches from the screen.

|
Flipman
(1.4megs, DivX
format) by Taron
This is another test for a personal project. The dog may be familiar to messiah users
because the model, setup, and scene is included on the project:messiah
1.5 CD. |

F8
(Teaser)
(5.4megs, DivX
format; sound) by Jason Wen
This is a trailer for a short film. All animation
(including the camera) was created in messiah.
Jason's favorite messiah features: interface
speed, MorphBlender, expressions, and IK. Note: The DivX format
provides the best image, but if you don't have that codec or
don't want to install it, here are some additional
formats: MPEG

Pete's
Song
(12.25megs, MPEG; sound) by Thad Clevenger
"Pete's Song" is a short film created as a test
project for doing lip-synch with facial bones instead of morphs.
This was Thad's first real attempt at character animation, and
I'm sure you'll agree that he's got a big future ahead of
him. And the music of Barry White will never
be the same! For more of Thad's work, take a look at his
web site: www.puzzledust.com

character animation for about four months at the time this was
created. |
|

morphing ideas. The bone setup is extremely simple, yet
the elbows and shoulders flex in a very realistic way.
This object and scene file is included on the project:messiah
1.5 CD. The video was created using messiah's
"Save OpenGL Preview" feature. |
